The beauty of the Umpherston Sinkhole/Balumbul has to be seen to be believed. Appreciate its size and depth from the viewing platforms at the top of the sinkhole, then walk down into the sinkhole, along the terraces and behind the hanging vines. A large undercover shelter with group seating and free barbecue is provided. The kiosk on site offers coffee, snacks, ice creams and souvenirs.

Why Visit:

I heard about this attraction from my son, who is not an outdoor see the sights kind of person, so when we decided to visit Mount Gambier, it was on top of my list of things to see, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The Umpherston Sink Hole is a unique and delightful garden, and though small, well worth visiting if you happen to be in Mount Gambier.  The sinkhole offers an array of scenic spots and a beautiful garden; certainly, offering an experience. The garden is open every day and remains open until late in the evening. Bring along some snacks and watch the possums emerge at dusk.
