True! And may I add: 1/4 teaspoon of bleach per litre, and toss a copper penny in the water with the sugar. Sugar alone will increase bacteria but the bleach will keep that under control. Copper is a natural fungicide. I used to grow flowers just for cutting, but I donβt anymore. Prefer them in the garden.

Nowadays, the same ingredients are in those little packets when you buy a bouquet. As a kid, I had a Saturday job at a florist, stripping leaves off stems, and cleaning up mostly, but the owner taught me a lot about plants.
