Ode to strangers
Oh, dear stranger I see you there
On the other side of the fence, you do stare
At me for but a moment, I’m dismissed
Tortoises, you have no time for this
But see me in my dreams,
You’d be amazed, you wouldn’t believe.
I play basketball, skip, and hop, I’m
Not boring, I’m the bomb.
Oh, dear stranger please will you not pause
I will amaze you as scurry across the
Lawn. You can marvel at my speed,
as I show you the best part of me.
Perhaps you could pretend you care,
Goodbye dear stranger, I won’t despair.

We came upon a turtle in the middle of a very narrow road while on vacation; we stopped to admire him and my husband moved him into the tall grass to keep him safe. I’m pretty sure I heard him say “thanks!” as we drove away. 🐢
