Steven was weary from constantly searching the horizon, and he thought maybe his eyes were playing tricks on him, but no there was an unmarked road peeking out from between the bushes. He could’ve sworn it hadn’t been there before, but being adventurous he decided he’d follow it for a while.
It appeared unused, but as he proceeded along the way he caught a scent which was strangely unfamiliar, and excited he hurried along, only to grind to a halt when the woodlands stopped abruptly and the strangest tree he’d ever seen came into view.
It was wonderous inviting, with its network of interwoven branches, its short spiny leaves, its round bell-shaped top. It was like a dream bin, one of those branches was all he’d ever wanted. This wasn’t just a tree; it was an adventure.
How he knew this he couldn’t decide but he just knew he had to climb it, but how? He wasn’t built to climb and feeling the onset of defeat he sat down with a thud.
“Well, that’s what I like to see, someone accepting their inadequacies without a murmur.” Startled Steven looked around, as a sarcastic voice stated, “Up here stupid.”
Looking up he saw them. Men entwined in the tree’s branches and below them what he could only deem trouble. She smirked at him, almost taunting him to climb up and become one of her causalities and angry he began to bark, even as he heard his owner call his name.
“Steve, where are you? It’s time to go back now, come on you silly dog, I’ll throw your ball.”
Steven grinned, lifting his leg to pee on the tree, as a voice yelled from above, “Disgusting creature.”
