
As Terry emitted a heartfelt sigh, Martin felt his hopes plummet, “Do you think anyone will show?”
Terry’s shrugged, “I don’t know, there’s not many of our generation left, and kids these days don’t understand, do they?”
“Nah, they want everything modern and new, reckon its better than the old stuff.”
“Yep, but we had to try.”
“Uh huh.”
For a moment they stood in silence looking down at the river which flowed below the hundred-year-old bridge, but as a car door slammed the pair turned.
“Terry, they’re coming.”
“I never doubted them.”
The bridge would be saved after all.
