As he arose from the depths Martin’s sense of anticipation rose even higher, all the questions he’d had growing up were finally going to be answered.

When they’d asked for volunteers, he hadn’t hesitated.  The medical hadn’t been an issue but his overzealousness had; they thought it might create issues, so in the end he’d had to make sure they had no other option. 

Yes, it was sabotage, but he didn’t regret it, he was going to be the first one to see what remain after the polar ice caps had melted and humanity took to the oceans to survive.
